The daughter of the Mexican journalist who was shot this week also died from injuries sustained in the same attack. The double murder comes at a time when Mexico is under intense international criticism for its continued attacks and killings of media workers.
Cynthia de la Cruz Martinez, 23, died Friday afternoon from gunshot wounds sustained last week when a group of gunmen shot her father, Antonio Del La Cruz, a respected journalist, in Tamaulipas.
Unidentified gunmen shot and killed De La Cuza outside his home Wednesday morning, according to Breitbart Texas. He worked as a journalist for a long time. Express in Victoria City. The journalist left home to take her daughter to her office, where she works as an accountant. Family friends in Breitbart Texas said Cynthia is the youngest of Antonio’s three daughters.
According to Tamaulipas law enforcement officials, Antonio and Cynthia were shot several times with 40-caliber bullets. Cynthia lived 48 hours in the emergency room in Ciudad Victoria while Antonio died at the scene of the attack. She was seriously injured when one of the bullets hit her skull.
While Tamaulipas state officials initially investigated the murder, a special unit of the Mexican Attorney General’s Office that responded to crimes against journalists led the investigation.
Authorities have so far not determined the cause of the murder. El Expreso director Miguel Dominguez does not rule out that De La Cruz’s work as a journalist may be the reason for this. While the late journalist wrote about the problems of agriculture and other issues, De La Cruz posted information about social corruption on social networks.

De La Cruz became the 13th journalist killed in Mexico this year. Various press freedom organizations continue to portray Mexico as one of the most dangerous places in the world for media workers, but President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has ignored any criticism, saying he went unpunished during his reign.
