Reviewed by Representative Maira Flores (R-TX). New York Times After a broadcast article, she and fellow Texas Republican congressional candidates Monica De La Cruz and Cassie Garcia were labeled as “far-right” Hispanics.
Flores won a special election in the 34th Congressional District on June 14 and reversed the Democratic seat in the densely Hispanic district, running on a platform of core conservative values that marked change among Democratic Hispanic voters. As Breitbart News previously reported, the victory made him “the first Republican to represent the Rio Grande Valley in nearly 150 years.”
In an article titled “The Rise of Far-Right Hispanics,” published Wednesday New York Times Political reporter Jennifer Medina has written about Flores, in addition to De La Cruz and Garcia, who run for the 15th and 28th congressional districts, respectively. The article’s subtitle reads, “Flores is one of three Hispanic Republicans fighting to change South Texas politics, avoiding moderates and often turning to extremists.”
“But most notably, Mrs. Flores won by avoiding the moderates, supporting the far right, and wearing her support for Donald J. Trump on her sleeve—more Marjorie Taylor Green than Bailey Hutchison,” Medina wrote later in the article…

Garcia against the agent. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) from the 28th congressional district retweeted a caption photo and said “for himself” when the “radical left” targeted him. [her] faith and support for school choice”, “they also attack millions of Hispanic families and [her] society. “
“I will never stop fighting for our values,” he said.

Both districts 34 and 28 are adjacent to district 15 and are on the US-Mexico border in South Texas. All three counties have dense Hispanic populations, and the Congressional Republican National Committee has named the trio of Flores, De La Cruz, and Garcia a “Triple Threat.”

Flores’ nearly eight-point victory over Democratic candidate Dan Sanchez on June 14 shows Hispanic voters gravitating towards conservative candidates. As Breitbart News points out, the Democratic departure is also evidenced by the voting patterns in the last two presidential elections in Hildago County, which is part of De La Cruz’s 15th congressional district:
Before the three women in South Texas were in the limelight, Hidalgo sent Democrats one of the first warning signs that they didn’t have the power they could expect from Latino voters.
[Former President Donald] Trump lost 41 points to Hidalgo in 2016, but only lost 17 in 2020, which means the Republicans are starting to make significant gains. Then, the Democrats no doubt have reason to worry, the McAllen people elected Javier Villalobos as their Republican mayor in 2021.
