Breitbart News reporter Penny Starr, who has covered Capitol Hill and national politics, passed away this weekend after a silent battle with cancer and left the newsroom to mourn the loss of a dear colleague and close friend.
Starr joined Breitbart News in 2017 after spending several years on Capitol Hill. worked as editor island packageCovering the Hilton Head, South Carolina resort area and producing a lifestyle section for a print publication.
But when his sons Zach and Paul grew up and lived on their own, he immersed himself in political journalism when he moved to Washington, D.C. to become a leading debater and embarked on a new career that eventually went to Breitbart.
For a time, he worked for the Center for Media Studies, a conservative watchdog group that documents the liberal bias of the media. Before joining Breitbart at the start of the Trump administration, he wrote for CNSN News, an alternative conservative media outlet affiliated with the MRC.
One colleague said, “honestly [Penny] I really liked Breitbart. He talks about it all the time. How it was her dream job and she was so happy to have achieved it in her life. …
“He’s always trying to get into the field and get original content. He especially liked the protests outside of SCOTUS.”
His father, II. was a US Navy photographer during World War II; Her mother sang at USO and volunteered for political campaigns, fueling Starr’s interest in politics. She studied psychology and English at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Her main focus at Breitbart is national politics, but Penny has an all-knowing appetite for appointments and can be used for any big news that needs coverage. Therefore, he has knowledge on various subjects. He took a special interest in California, writing from afar about his former hometown.
Starr was an excellent choice for Breitbart staff, despite being an older generation than most. He became a mentor to some and a friend to many, opening his home in Alexandria, Virginia, to host events for his colleagues and even hang out with fellow reporters.
Starr, like many Americans, has recently moved to Florida, where she loves her new home. He missed the events in Washington but enjoyed the beauty of the Sunshine State – even in the summer. He planted vegetables in June.
He maintains close ties with his DC colleagues and travels frequently to see family and friends, visiting Mexico in the late spring and heading to Texas just two weeks ago.
His loss came as a deep shock, and details are still emerging. He leaves behind children, grandchildren, millions of readers and colleagues who consider themselves family.
