The Secretary General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit expressed his sincere congratulations to Somalia’s President-elect, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, for gaining the confidence of members of the Somali parliament in the two chambers of the People’s Assembly and Senate.
Aboul Gheit wants the new president Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud to succeed in realizing the aspirations of the Somali people for peace, stability and prosperity.
In a statement on Monday, he expressed his gratitude for the efforts of former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo to run the country during his tenure, and for the spirit of democracy he displayed while accepting the election result.
An official source from the Secretariat General confirmed that the Arab League will continue its support for Somalia in its development process and its relentless efforts to restore national reconciliation and rebuild its institutions.
After winning the presidential election in Somalia, 67 -year -old Hassan Sheikh Mahmud became the tenth president in the country’s history, sworn in at a military base at Mogadishu International Airport under tight security.
