On Monday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres congratulated Lebanon on the parliamentary elections held on Sunday, saying he was “looking forward to the formation of an inclusive government.”
“We look forward to the rapid formation of an inclusive government that can finalize an agreement with the International Monetary Fund and expedite the implementation of the necessary reforms to put Lebanon on the path to economic recovery,” Guterres said in a statement.
“The Secretary-General is counting on the new parliament to pass all the necessary legislation to stabilize the economy and improve the government,” the statement added.
Guterres called on Lebanese political leaders to “work together in the interests of Lebanon and the Lebanese people.”
