UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on Libya to “restart the electoral process, which was halted in December and has become today more than ever a political necessity.”
In a report he sent to the UN Security Council, he stressed that “Libyans must unconditionally commit themselves to holding free, fair, inclusive and credible presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible on the basis of an agreed constitutional and legal framework,” given that “truce”. The October 2020 resolution was firm, but he called on “all parties to refrain from any unilateral action that would exacerbate existing divisions, provoke conflicts and jeopardize the great progress that has barely been made over the past two years towards stability and unity.
