Abu Dhabi police said Monday that a gas cylinder exploded in the UAE capital, killing two people and injuring 120 others, hours after the first official news broke, and officials warned people about the incident. Publish images of its consequences
The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a restaurant. In the luxurious Khalidiya district of Abu Dhabi, just a few blocks from the Capital Beach Corniche.
Abu Dhabi police initially briefly referred to the damage and showed images of glass and debris scattered across the street.
Six hours later, Abu Dhabi police tweeted that the death toll was 64, with 64 “slightly injured”, 56 “moderately injured” and two killed.
The injured were taken to hospital for medical treatment, which damaged shops and the facades of six buildings, police said.
He noted that investigations into the blast were ongoing.
Abu Dhabi police have warned people not to release any footage of the aftermath of the blast in the country with strict rules.
Officials had threatened to prosecute those who broadcast images of attacks on the capital following drone strikes on the capital by Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The English-language newspaper The National described the blast as an unidentified restaurant around 1pm on Monday.
According to the Associated Press, the UAE is facing seasonal fires caused by the intense heat that reaches the country every summer.
And last February, officials said a similar explosion at a gas cylinder in the capital, amid fears of Houthi attacks.
