The Security Service of Ukraine shared an alleged intercepted telephone conversation between a Russian soldier and his wife, in which the latter confessed to the death and torture of Ukrainian civilians.
In the communication, the soldier appears to tell the woman that the Russian military resorted to grenades to “clean” the cellars where Ukrainian civilians take refuge during the invasion of Ukraine.
We are cleaning the basements, and do you know how?” the Russian soldier asked, according to the transcript made by the Ukrainian Security Service. “We don’t ask who’s there, we just throw grenades and don’t give a damn.”
The soldier also claims to have participated in the violent and indiscriminate murder of Ukrainian civilians with firearms: “I shoot everybody, I don’t give a shit. Whether they are civilians or not. I can just take a knife and cut someone’s ears off.”
The man, according to the same account, also revealed that soldiers from another unit allegedly taunted, raped and killed a Ukrainian woman. This element of the Moscow army would have been, according to the Ukrainian authorities, in the Kharkiv region.
