Businessman Paul Pelosi, husband of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in Napa County, California.
The 82-year-old man was charged with two misdemeanors, with a bail of five thousand dollars (about 4,600 euros), having been released on Sunday morning. According to CNN, the arrest came after Nancy Pelosi’s husband’s Porsche was hit by a jeep. There were no injuries and the other driver, 48, was not arrested.
In California, driving with a blood alcohol level greater than 0.008% is prohibited. The authorities did not reveal what value Paul Pelosi had at the time of his arrest, the BBC advances.
The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives was giving a speech at Brown University when the arrest took place. Speaker for Nancy Pelosi, Drew Hammill, assured that the president of the House of Representatives does not comment on a “private matter”.
Paul and Nancy Pelosi met at Georgetown University, have been married since 1963, and have five children. The couple owns a vineyard in Napa County, California.
