UN High Commissioner for Human Rights spokeswoman Elisabeth Trossy said 19 civilians were killed and 32 injured during a truce in Yemen that was extended for another two months on Thursday, particularly due to mines, improvised explosive devices or unexploded ordnance. .
She pointed out that this result, recorded between April 2 and June 1, “sheds light on the threat that these munitions pose to the civilian population over an extended period of time, causing death and serious injury.” She stated that “children are the most vulnerable. Between April 2 and June 1, 3 children were killed and 12 were injured.”
Despite a long-awaited truce, three civilians, including a woman, were killed by snipers in four separate incidents in government-controlled areas close to the front lines. On Thursday, the Yemeni government and the Houthis agreed to extend the truce for another two months, hours before its reactors shut down.
