All five US Marines aboard an MV-22 Osprey died Thursday when the plane crashed in the California desert near the Arizona border.
The information was provided by the United States Marine Corps (USA). The MV-22B Osprey crashed at 12:15 pm Wednesday during training in a remote area of Imperial County.near the community of Glamis, about 115 miles east of San Diego.
The Camp Pendleton-based aircraft with Marine Aircraft Group 39 was part of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, industry spokesman Maj. Mason Englehart said.
The Osprey model is a hybrid airplane and helicopter that has been criticized for its safety record.. The aircraft can hover and stop like a helicopter, but transit like a turboprop aircraft.
The aircraft is flown by the Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force.
