Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett told the British newspaper The Telegraph that “Iran is perilously close to completing its nuclear weapons program and will soon build a bomb if the West does not oppose it”, noting that “Iran is enriching uranium at a rate” unprecedented, and is dangerously close to acquiring a nuclear weapon.”
On June 8, the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency on Wednesday evening passed a resolution by a majority vote in Vienna formally criticizing Iran for its lack of cooperation.
This text, presented by the US and the “big three” (UK, France and Germany), is the first criticism of Tehran voted by a UN agency since June 2020, amid the acceleration of the Iranian nuclear program and the halt of negotiations aimed at resurrecting the Iranian nuclear program Agreement of the year 2015 .
On the other hand, the head of the Iranian Nuclear Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami, noted that the answers that Iran has given so far to the IAEA’s questions have been accurate and clear, but there is no serious will on the part of the director of the Agency. Rafael Grossi called these answers convincing.
Eslami stressed, “The International Atomic Energy Agency is based on intelligence reports from Israel-led enemies of Iran.” He called on the agency to “end political influence within it and abide by its constitution”, denouncing the “lack of criticism of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s handling of domestic nuclear facilities”. He called the issue “the big question”.
