The labor cost per hour rises 3.7% in the EU in the 1st quarter

– Hourly labor costs increased by 3.2% in the euro zone and 3.7% in the European Union (EU) in the first quarter of the year, compared to the same period last year, Eurostat reports.

According to data from the Community Statistical Service, considering the two components of the indicator —wages and salaries and non-wage costs— the first increased by 2.7% in the eurozone and 3.3% in the EU and the second, respectively, 4 . 8% and 3.3%.

Hungary (20.1%), Bulgaria and Latvia (12.8%) and Lithuania (12.6%) were the countries where hourly labor costs increased the most between January and March, until the first quarter of 2021.

The only decreases were registered in Greece (-4.7%) and Denmark (-0.7%).

In Portugal, the indicator increased by 0.9% year-on-year.
