U.S. Ambassador to Tel Aviv Tom Neides pointed out that “U.S. President Joe Biden’s visit to the region next month aims to strengthen relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.”
Nides confirmed in an interview with Israel Hayom that “Biden will work to expand security in the region,” noting that “Biden’s tour indicates that his relationship with Israel cannot be compromised.”
In this context, the paper suggested that Biden would announce during his visit to the region the launch of a regional security forum involving Israel and the United States. She added that “countries nominated for this forum also include Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Egypt and Jordan.”
The newspaper, citing Israeli sources, said that the formation of the forum does not signify an agreement to normalize relations with Saudi Arabia, but that the move would help regulate security cooperation between the two countries.
She pointed out that “Israeli Security Minister Benny Gantz was behind the idea of creating the Regional Security Forum”, noting that “the purpose of its formation is to counter the Iranian nuclear threat, noting that Gantz discussed this idea with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin during their last meeting in Washington.
