Cartel gunmen attempted to ambush a group of Mexican officers in a violent shootout in which authorities killed 11 and arrested seven.
The clashes took place this week near the city of Tescaltitlán, Mexico, about 78 miles south of Mexico City. The authorities were conducting an operation against the La Familia Michoacana member when gunmen tried to ambush him.
Members of the Mexican army, navy, and national guard resisted the attack, initially killing 10, wounding four, and arresting a total of seven. Hours later, one of the wounded militants died.
Thus, the conflict between state and federal forces and criminal integration groups held in Texcaltitlán, Mexico.

Authorities seized a total of 20 long guns, pistols, ammunition, five vehicles, armor, military equipment and communication equipment.
The major conflict came at a time when the Mexican federal government avoided clashes with cartels to reduce violence. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was widely criticized for his approach and his use of the phrase “abrazos no balazos,” meaning a hug, not a bullet.
