Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Beniten announced Monday that Israel and Turkey have thwarted several attempts by Iranian-backed terrorists to attack Israelis.
“Operational efforts with Turkish security forces have paid off,” Bennett told a news conference.
According to the Jerusalem Post, he continued: “In recent days, in a joint effort between Israel and Turkey, we thwarted a number of terrorist attempts and many terrorists were arrested on Turkish soil.”
He also said that Israel and Turkey are working very closely together to prevent Iran from trying to harm the Israelis, and thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his efforts.
He added: “Work is underway with the aim of restoring the tourism situation in Turkey and Israel to normal.” “We must end the counter-terrorism operation,” he said.
Bennett warned that Israel “will continue to expose the true face of Iran” and said that anyone who wanted to harm the Israelis would react.
“The days when Iran financed terrorism and provided equipment and training to terrorists without being harmed,” he said, adding that “the sender of the terrorists will pay the price.”
“We will go wherever necessary,” he said.
About 2,000 Israelis are still in Turkey, down from 5,000 earlier in the week before the cells were discovered.
It is worth noting that these developments took place after Iran had repeatedly warned in recent days that it would inevitably respond to “Israeli assassinations on Iranian soil,” especially after the assassination of Revolutionary Guards Colonel Hassan Sayad Khodaei. He was shot near his house in the east of Tehran on May 22 last year.
