The US Public Ministry has requested a sentence of at least 30 years in prison for the British Ghislaine Maxwell, convicted of inciting teenagers to be sexually abused by her ex-boyfriend and millionaire Jeffrey Epstein.
The prosecution said Wednesday that the former collaborator and ex-partner of the American Jeffrey Epstein, who committed suicide in prison in 2019, must serve between 30 and 55 years in prisonin recommendations to the judge who will read the sentence next Tuesday.
In a document filed in federal court in Manhattan, New York, last week, defense attorneys said the 60-year-old Maxwell should not spend more than five years in prison.
The defense also claimed that the Briton faced death threats and harsh conditions in prison, where she lost hair and weight.
But the prosecution argued that Maxwell played a role “instrumental role in the horrific sexual abuse of several teenage girls”between 1994 and 2004, in some of Epstein’s houses in the states of Florida, New York and New Mexico.
“As part of a disturbing deal with Jeffrey Epstein, Maxwell identified, groomed and abused multiple victims while enjoying a life of extraordinary luxury and privilege. Maxwell left victims permanently scarred by emotional and psychological damage,” the magistrates wrote.
“This damage can never be repaired, but it must be taken into account in crafting a just sentence for Maxwell’s crimes,” they added.
The indictment also criticized Maxwell’s “total failure to address his offensive conduct and his complete lack of remorse. Instead of showing even a hint of accepting responsibility, the defendant makes a desperate attempt to shift the blame where she can,” she wrote.
In December, Maxwell was found guilty of five of the six counts they did to him, related to the sexual exploitation of 14-year-old girls.
