According to data released by the Mexican Ministry of Health, the country recorded 16,133 new cases of coronary heart disease on Thursday, the highest number of daily cases since late February.
Experts say the increase indicates that a new wave of coronavirus outbreaks has swept the country.
“What we have seen in the last nine weeks is a gradual increase in the number of cases,” Deputy Health Minister Hugo Lopez Gatel told a news conference on Tuesday.
“Most of the cases are with Omicron PA4 and PA5 strains, which cause cold-like symptoms,” he added.
He continued: “What is more encouraging than this is that mortality is also under control.”
According to the Mexican Ministry of Health, an average of 24 deaths have been recorded daily over the past seven days.
