The Canadian Navy announced the deployment of two warships to the Baltic Sea and the North Atlantic, in addition to two frigates previously sent to the region to reinforce NATO’s eastern flank in response to Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.

And pointed out in a statement that “two Canadian ships “Kingston” and “Summerside”, belonging to Her Majesty the Queen, went on a four-month mission as part of the containment measures in Central and Eastern Europe that began in 2014 after Moscow annexed Crimea, explaining this that “during October, the two ships will take part in a naval mine-clearing exercise and will maintain a ‘high alert’ that will allow them to respond quickly and effectively in support of any NATO operation.”

The Halifax and Montreal are due to return to port in July after participating in Operation Reay Assurance, which is currently Canada’s largest military operation overseas. The mission also includes about 700 Canadian soldiers in Latvia with electronic warfare and artillery, as well as several military aircraft.
