In a statement to reporters after meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hussein Amir Abdullahian at Damascus International Airport, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad said “this visit is very important and comes after many local, regional and international developments.” in his energetic actions on the nuclear dossier, and we support his position in this regard,” he stressed.

Before leaving for Syria, Abdullahyan made it clear that “one of the purposes of my visit to Damascus is to make progress towards stabilizing peace and security between Syria and Turkey, since these two countries have important relations with Iran.” noting that “many developments in the region are forcing us to act constructively to prevent new crises from arising.”

This morning, Abdullahyan left Tehran and headed for the Syrian capital of Damascus at the head of an official delegation.

During this visit, the Iranian Foreign Minister plans to exchange views with senior Syrian officials regarding the expansion of bilateral relations and recent regional and international developments.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani believes that “the purpose of the visit is to discuss bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues.”
