Ocean Viking ship with 291 migrants on board requests urgent authorization from a port to dock

The SOS Méditerranée Ocean Viking humanitarian ship, with 291 migrants on board, asked Monday to dock in a port, urgently, after having rescued 63 people in a search and rescue area near the island of Malta.

The Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) reported on its social networks that this is the 7th rescue in the last 10 days and that the migrants “urgently need a safe haven” after so many days at sea.

On the other hand, the Geo Barents ship of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) docked this Sunday in the port of Taranto, in the Apulia region, Italy, with 65 survivors of the June 28 shipwreck on board.

There are 30 people missing in this June 28 wreck, including five women and eight children.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of the Interior, so far 27,424 immigrants have reached Italian shoreswhile in the same period last year there were 20,532.
