The basins of the western Algarve, with 13.3%, and Lima, with 18.3%, had the least amount of water stored on the continent at the end of June, as it has been since the end of last year.
According to data from the National Water Resources Information System (SNIRH), the storage averages for the month of June are 71.7% and 73.5% in the Barlavento and Lima basins, respectively.
At the end of June, the basins of Mira (38.4%), Cávado (39.3%), Arade (46.1%), Sado (49.2%), Oeste (54.3%) and Tejo and Douro (56.3%).
The Mondego (86%), Guadiana (69.6%) and Ave (62.7%) basins were the ones with the highest levels.
Fourteen of the 60 reservoirs monitored had, At the end of junewater availability below 40% of the total volume, while eight had values above 80%, according to the SNIRH.
On the last day of June and compared to the previous month, there was an increase in the volume stored in three river basins and a descent in nine.
June 2022 storages by basin are lower than June storage averages (1990/91 to 2020/21).
Each basin may correspond to more than one reservoir.
The meteorological drought situation worsened throughout the territory at the end of May with a very significant increase in the area in severe drought, reaching 97%, compared to 4.3% in April, according to the meteorological drought index ( ISDP).
According to the IPMA, there are four types of drought: meteorological, agricultural, hydrological and socioeconomic.
