A helicopter with four people on board crashed after hitting a communications tower this Sunday night, in Houston, United States (early Monday morning in Portugal). The accident caused a large fire. None of the passengers survived; among the dead was a baby, according to local authorities cited by NBC.
The accident occurred at 7:54 p.m. local time (00:54 a.m. in Portugal) and the local police department clarified that the collision took place in Second Ward, a neighborhood of Houston.
Police Chief J. Noe Díaz said the helicopter was a Robinson R44 that took off from Ellington Field and referred to the accident as “a tragic loss of life“, in a “tragic event”.

Firefighters confirmed that the fire that broke out after the collision spread for three blocks before being brought under control. Whitmire, the fire official, also said some homes were without power, but that “residents are safe and protected.” “It was a terrible accident”he said, quoted by CNN.

The mayor stated that, within the tragedy, there ended up being some “luck,” since, given the proximity of a butane gas tank in the area, the explosion could have had much more tragic contours.
