Earlier today, the Finnish Foreign Minister and his Swedish counterpart signed protocols of accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The accession protocol requires ratification by the parliaments of 30 NATO countries.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said “this is a historic day for Finland and Sweden and the security of the North Atlantic.”

It is noteworthy that Finland and Sweden were officially invited to NATO after an agreement with Turkey, which, in turn, demanded security guarantees on condition that the two countries join, especially in terms of supporting “terrorist organizations”.
