The US State Department announced that it has provided $592 million in aid to almost seven million displaced people and refugees on the African continent.

“This assistance, facilitated by the United States Agency for International Development, will provide vital support to refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced and stateless persons, forcibly displaced and persecuted people across the continent, and to those affected by crises in the African Horn,” the ministry said in a statement.

The assistance will enable humanitarian partners to provide assistance to the more than 7 million refugees and asylum seekers currently scattered across Africa, in addition to more than 25 million internally displaced people, she said, calling on other donors to provide additional support to the growing humanitarian needs in continent.

Notably, tens of millions of Africans live in refugee camps while others are displaced by fighting and wars, and thousands of people are trying to enter Europe through illegal immigration across the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.
