The Mexican president laughed at the Biden administration in a famous song about how he feared the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement) energy dispute.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) asked his employees to play a popular cumbia song called “Uy Que Miedo” (“I’m So Afraid”) at a press conference this morning when asked about the energy conflict in the United States. The man trembled in great fear.
“They announced yesterday that they would need a review, a consultation with our energy policy because it is allegedly affecting the deal,” he said, saying he was extremely worried before asking AMLO staff to play the song.

The issue came a day after U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai requested consultations with the Mexican government over allegations that the government’s AMLO energy policy was harming U.S. companies.
“We have tried to work properly with the Mexican government to resolve these issues, but unfortunately US companies continue to face unfair treatment in Mexico,” Tai said in a prepared statement.
Tai said Mexico’s actions include changes to Mexican electricity law that favors the country’s state-owned company (CFE) over cleaner energy sources provided by private sector suppliers. The trade ambassador also said Mexico has created headwinds for US companies with delays and dips in favor of CFE and Pemex.
