Turkey threatens again to veto the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO

The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, threatened this Wednesday, for the second time in 24 hours, to veto the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO, if these countries do not fulfill the commitments agreed at the recent Alliance summit.

In statements to the Turkish press, the Turkish president reiterated that his main condition is that these two countries extradite Kurdish terrorists to Turkey.

We make our conditions very clear. There is nothing hidden. Our condition is that these countries stop allowing the activities and demonstrations of terrorist organizations and extradite the terrorists in question,” Erdogan said.

“They feed these organizations until the day they reach their parliaments. They are like incubators. If they do not keep their promises, it will not be possible for us to view this matter in a positive light,” Erdogan said.

Erdogan also accused other NATO countries and members, including Norway, Germany, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Italy, of support the Kurdish terrorist groups opposed to Turkey.

On Monday, the Turkish head of state once again threatened to freeze the membership of Sweden and Finland in NATO.

“We will freeze the process if these countries [Suécia e Finlândia] do not take the necessary measures to meet our conditions,” Erdogan declared after a meeting of his government and was quoted by the Turkish media.

“In particular, we see that Sweden is not giving a good image on this issue,” Erdogan said on Monday.
