Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim reported, citing Iranian Atomic Energy Organization chief Mohammad Eslami, that Tehran would not use the International Atomic Energy Agency’s cameras it removed in June until the 2015 nuclear deal was reopened.
Iran told the International Atomic Energy Agency that it removed its equipment, including 27 cameras installed as part of the deal, after the agency passed a resolution in June criticizing Tehran.
“We will not use the cameras of the International Atomic Energy Agency until the other side returns to the nuclear agreement,” Eslami said.
The 2015 nuclear deal imposes restrictions on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for lifting international sanctions. But former US President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the deal in 2018 and re-imposed tough sanctions on Iran.
In response, Tehran violated the terms of the agreement to limit its nuclear activities.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani accused IAEA director Rafael Grossi of “unprofessional, unfair and unconstructive views” on Iran’s nuclear program.
He added that his country hoped to quickly return to the nuclear deal if the US showed goodwill.
