For his part, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Tuesday that the Taliban had “egregiously” violated the Doha agreement by hosting and harboring al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden said the United States had killed al-Zawahiri in a weekend raid in Afghanistan, the biggest blow to the militant group since its founder bin Laden was killed in 2011.

“In the face of the Taliban’s unwillingness or inability to fulfill their commitments, we will continue to support the people of Afghanistan with strong humanitarian assistance and the defense of human rights, especially the rights of women and girls,” Blinken said. Statement.

A senior US official revealed that Hellfire missiles were used to target al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, noting that the operation was carried out by air and without ground forces.

The official confirmed that al-Zawahiri was killed in the attack, with no civilian casualties.
