Taiwan denounces the presence of Beijing warships off the island

A destroyer ship of the People’s Republic of China Navy sailed 80 kilometers off Lanyu Island, southeastern TaiwanTaipei’s CNA news agency reported on Monday.

Military sources quoted by the CNA agency add that, in addition to destroyers, frigates and telecommunications ships of the People’s Liberation Army (People’s Republic of China) were seen “in the last few days” off Taiwan’s Lanyu Island.

The island is located 88 kilometers from the city of Hualien, on the east coast of Taiwan (People’s Republic of China).

The Taipei Ministry of Defense explained that it used “joint information, surveillance and reconnaissance system methods to record and control possible enemy movements (PRC).”

The approaches by Beijing Navy ships come at a time when US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is in Asia and may, eventually, go to taiwan.

Beijing declared last week that it will adopt “forceful measures” in case Pelosi’s displacement is confirmed, which has not yet been confirmed by the Taiwanese Foreign Ministry.

During a telephone contact established last week, the president of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, asked his American counterpart, Joe Biden, to “do not play with fire“.

Beijing claims sovereignty over the island and considers Taiwan a “rogue province” ever since Kuomintang nationalists led by Chiang Kai-shek were defeated by communist forces led by Mao Zedong during the civil war in the late 1990s. 1940.

The nationalists took refuge on the island in the Formosa Strait having established in Taiwan in 1949, the Republic of China (ROC -official acronym) -founded in 1912 by Sun Yat-sen-.

In the past year, the number of PRC fighter jet incursions into the Taiwan Aerial Identification Zone has increased.

On the other hand, the presence of US warships in the Strait of Formosa, has also been repeatedly condemned by Beijing.
