The Municipal Plan for the Integration of Migrants of the 2nd Generation (PMIM 2G), carried out more than 1,500 services in the first half of 2022, the Amato Lusitano Association — Development (ALAD) announced on Tuesday.
In this first semester of 2022, 544 new migrants and refugees from third countries, specifically the PMIM, have already arrived in Castelo Branco.
These people, coming from more than 30 different countries, feel that their priority needs are the support for legalization and social support.
The answers to these needs are given by the Castelo Branco Local Center for Support for the Integration of Migrants (CLAIM) which, since January, has already carried out 1,586 consultations”, reads the note.
PMIM 2G aims to respond to the needs identified by the immigrant community and also to respond to the needs identified in the Social Diagnosis of the municipality of Castelo Branco and in the National Implementation Plan of the Global Compact for Migration.
In this sense, the main objective of the project is to guarantee the response to integration and legal migration in the municipality of Castelo Brancomobilizing the participation of various local and regional partners and the general population.
It is an atypical year in terms of the arrival of new immigrants and refugees in Castelo Branco, not only due to the conflict situation in Ukraine in which Castelo Branco has already welcomed 80 refugee families, but also due to sociopolitical, demographic and economic factors. factors”, according to the ALAD.
The beneficiary entity of PMIM 2G is the Câmara de Castelo Branco, which submitted the candidacy, and ALAD is the operating partner, with the project ending on December 31, 2022.
