The German fire brigade announced that the German army was being used to put out a fire that had broken out in the Grunwald Forest in the capital Berlin.

The fire broke out early in the morning after an unintentional explosion at a police station next to a forest.

A spokesman for the fire department indicated that “strong explosions are still happening on site”, explaining that “the drought in the forest and the ammunition still stored on site is a major problem.”

It is reported that “explosive materials are stored at this facility, and their disposal is carried out by the bomb disposal center of the Berlin police.”

The German railway authority Deutsche Bahn indicated that “the fire caused a stoppage of regional transport, as well as the movement of suburban trains.”

One of Berlin’s main thoroughfares has also been “closed”, according to the local transport center.

A German police spokesman said: “It is not yet clear how the explosion occurred.”
