Change Qatar World Cup start?

The Associated Press news agency, quoting an informed source, announced that there is a proposal under consideration by the International Football Federation “FIFA” to launch the upcoming World Cup 2022, one day before the scheduled date.

FIFA is considering a plan to allow the host nation to play Ecuador on Nov. 20, according to the source, who did not speak to The Associated Press.

According to the source, the decision could be made within days by a committee including FIFA president Gianni Infantino and the heads of the six football confederations.

The source noted that the proposal was supported by tournament organizers and American confederation leaders during talks that also included the Qatari and Ecuadorian football federations.

The World Cup was scheduled to begin on November 21, with the Netherlands playing Senegal at 1 p.m. local time in Doha.

Qatar and Ecuador will also face each other six hours after the Netherlands and Senegal match in Group A.

Starting the World Cup on Sunday was ruled out several years ago when FIFA agreed to a shortened 28-day schedule after negotiations with European leagues that will hold club matches until November 13.

But the Qatar-Ecuador game will feature a small number of players who play for European clubs, and the host nation will be given one day to open the tournament.
