The New York police on Saturday identified the attacker as Salman Rushdie, an Indian-born British writer, author of the novel The Evil Verses.
And Fox News reported early this Saturday that the person who attacked Salman Rushdie is a 24-year-old young man of Lebanese origin named Hadi Matar and a resident of New Jersey.

After confirming that Hadi Matar targeted Salman Rushdie with a knife in the neck and abdomen, the American police noted that they are coordinating with the Federal Investigation Department “FBI” to reveal the motives of Hadi Matar’s bloody attack.

And yesterday Friday, “Hadi Matar” attacked Salman Rushdie, a famous English writer of Indian origin, before his speech in New York. He was shot in the neck and taken to the hospital, New York City police said.
On February 14, 1989, Rushdi faced numerous death threats, including the fatwa of the supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini, who called for his assassination. On February 23, 1987, the British government placed Rushdi under police protection.
