The DPRK Foreign Ministry criticized the UN Secretary General’s statements about his support for the complete denuclearization of North Korea, calling these statements impartial and unbiased.

North Korea’s official news agency released a foreign ministry statement after UN Secretary-General António Guterres said on Friday that he fully supported efforts to fully denuclearize North Korea when he met with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yul.

“I can only express my deep regret at the aforementioned statements of the UN Secretary-General, which are clearly lacking in impartiality and fairness and are inconsistent with his obligations under the UN Charter on the issue of quasi-unity,” said the Deputy Foreign Minister of North Korea. Kim Sung Jong made the announcement in a statement to Korean Island.

Kim added that the Secretary-General of the United Nations should not seek or accept orders from the government of a particular country, but should refrain from any action that could harm his position as an international official responsible only to the United Nations.

North Korea has tested a record number of missiles this year, and South Korean and Washington officials say they appear to be preparing to test a nuclear weapon for the first time since 2017 amid stalled denuclearization talks.
