Jewish media reported that an Israeli Jewess arrested on charges of spying for Iran last December attempted suicide in her home in Holon.

Paramedics arrived at her home and discovered that she had overdosed on pills and was taken to an unnamed hospital in critical condition.

The Shin Bet security service said in January that it had arrested five Israeli Jews on charges of helping Iranian activist Rambod Namdar, who often posed as a Jew, gather intelligence and make contacts in Israel. Two suspects, including a woman from Holon and her husband, whose names are banned from publication.

According to Shin Bet, the wife, who worked as a radio station host, kept in touch with Namdar for several years and sent photos to government agencies. The Shin Bet accused her husband of knowing and talking to an Iranian agent, and of taking his wife to the US consulate to take pictures of the building.

They were charged with contacting a foreign agent, passing on information that could be of value to the enemy, and facilitating the transfer of information that could be of value to the enemy.

An alleged Iranian intelligence agent known as Rambod Namdar used an undated Facebook profile photo to communicate with Israelis, many of whom were convicted on January 12, 2022.
The husband denied the allegations against him and his wife during an interview with Channel 12 News Thursday night after his wife attempted suicide and accused Shin Bet of extracting a false confession from her. “In the past eight months, our lives have become hell,” the husband said.

According to him, as soon as his wife questioned Namdar’s intentions, she “cut contact.” Despite this, he confirmed that his wife was “abused” by the Shin Bet during her interrogation and during her detention, stressing that they forced her to confess to the alleged charges.

The man noted that during the trial it turned out that the accused is not a native speaker of Farsi: “How does he come and accuse us of espionage?”
