The head of the Palestinian Hamas movement abroad, Khaled Mashaal, said that Saudi Arabia is holding 60 members of the movement in its prisons, “where they are subjected to terrible torture.”

In an interview with Al Jazeera, he pointed out that “in whose interests are they being tortured? And why are they being pursued? Hamas is not involved in any Arab dispute.” Calling for the speedy release of these detainees.

The Hamas head abroad stressed that the movement is not abandoning the 2007 Mecca agreement, as the Saudis have accused it, and that he personally told the late Saudi prince that the Mecca agreement matters to Saudi Arabia because it infuses Palestinian blood and on its basis, a government of national unity headed by Ismail Haniyeh was formed.

As to the reasons for Saudi Arabia’s stance towards Hamas, Mashaal denied the existence of any fundamental reason for the change in Saudi stance towards Hamas. Noting that the movement has not offended any of the parties and does not interfere in the affairs of other countries, and therefore “the state should not come and hold Hamas accountable for the fact that it is resisting.”

On the other hand, the head of Hamas abroad praised the position of Iran supporting the cause of the Palestinians, in particular Hamas, given that support for Iran continues despite their difficult circumstances, noting that “relations with Iran do not mean that they affect the independence of their solutions. , or that this is at the expense of the national interest of Palestine.” Or what it means to match or be compatible with this or another country in other files.”
