Portuguese woman detained in Lagos who fled with her son from Barcelona

The Portuguese citizen who allegedly kidnapped her five-year-old son in Barcelona (Spain) was arrested this Tuesday in Lagos, reported the newspaper El Mundo.

Ana Patrícia Trindade fled Spain with her son to allegedly avoid contact with her father, from whom she had been separated since 2019. According to El Mundo, her mother had breached her shared custody agreement on several occasions.

Joaquín Amills, president of the Spanish association SOS Desaparecidos, told El Mundo that the 39-year-old woman had made “many false accusations” about the child’s father. The father, for his part, filed a complaint because the mother did not take the child to school, which is being investigated.

The woman, a native of Setúbal, disappeared with Bastian on May 8, but it was not until a month later that the court issued a search and arrest warrant against the woman. The boy’s father accuses the Portuguese authorities of not having made enough efforts to find the boy and hired private detectives to do so.

Ana Patrícia Trindade will now be detained pending her extradition to stand trial in Barcelona and the girl will remain in the custody of the social services of the Portuguese State.

The Judicial Police sent clarifications for later, according to Notícias ao Minuto.
