Mevlut Cavusoglu, the head of Turkish diplomacy, said that despite the complete resumption of diplomatic relations with Israel, the “Turkey will not abandon the cause of the Palestinians.”
Tensions between the two powers began in 2008 after an Israeli military operation in Gaza. Later, in 2010, the death of 10 civiliansafter an Israeli attack on the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara, part of a fleet trying to break a blockade by transporting aid to Gaza, froze relations completely.
The announcement of the truce, in a statement, by the Israeli Executive, will put an end to long years of tense relations between the Mediterranean nations.
