The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States emphasized the importance of providing humanitarian services to the victims, refugees and displaced persons in the Arab countries as part of the celebration of World Humanitarian Day, which falls on 19 August each year.

The Arab League said in a statement that “the celebration of World Humanitarian Day is being held this year under the name (Don’t clap with one hand) to draw attention to the work carried out by humanitarian workers, whether they are professionals, volunteers or victims from humanitarian crises, as well as to identify the efforts of medical workers, emergency responders and other service providers for those affected.”

In this regard, the Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector of the Arab League, Ambassador Haifa Abu-Ghazaleh, explained that “The General Secretariat of the League pays great attention to the work of providing humanitarian services to victims, refugees and displaced persons in Arab countries through joint Arab action organizations and Sector of social affairs. And the Department of Health and Humanitarian Aid, with the aim of providing for the humanitarian needs of those affected in the Arab Member States during times of crisis, natural disasters and conflicts, in line with the policies and values ​​of the Arab League, international humanitarian law and human rights.

She noted that “The Council of Arab Ministers of Health is providing in-kind health support to Arab countries that are suffering from difficult humanitarian conditions in order to support the ability of the health sector to provide essential health services through cooperation among Arab Member States to provide assistance.” supplies, drugs and medical equipment and provide them to countries in need as soon as possible”, noting that “medical and humanitarian assistance has been provided to: Tunisia, Sudan, Somalia, Palestine, Lebanon, Libya and Yemen”.

She also noted “the adoption by the Council of Arab Ministers of Health of an Arab strategy for the provision of public health services in the context of asylum and displacement in the Arab region and its action plan to support countries hosting refugees in the provision of health services.” them”, noting that “the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, together with partners from the relevant institutions and organizations of the Refugee and Displaced Persons Organization system.
