The American channel “Al-Hurra” reported that three passengers died as a result of a collision of two aircraft in northern California while trying to land at a local airport. No injuries or other casualties were recorded.

The collision took place at Watsonville Municipal Airport shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday, according to a tweet from Watsonville.

According to the FAA, “at the time of the accident, there were two people on board the twin-engine Cessna 340, and only one pilot on the single-engine Cessna 152.”

The two planes were en route to the airport when the collision occurred, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.

Photos and videos from the scene posted on social media show the wreckage of a small plane in a grassy field near the airport. A photo from Watsonville shows a small building at the airport damaged, with firefighters on the scene.

Watsonville is located near Monterey Bay, about 100 miles (160 km) south of San Francisco.
