The Wall Street Journal reported that Iran’s demands for guarantees from the United States have once again hampered efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal.
On Monday, the American newspaper reported that Tehran sent a response to the European Union, which is leading the nuclear talks in Vienna, and that the response did not include acceptance or rejection of the draft text of the agreement with the European Union, but raised several issues. . Iran wants to include it in the deal.
He explained that Iran is again demanding US guarantees that no future US president will withdraw from the agreement, as it did with former President Donald Trump in 2018, considering these developments “unsure of possibility of Washington and European capitals to reach an agreement.”
The Iranian negotiating team said another important aspect of Iran’s response to the European proposal was the claim that Western companies investing in Iran would be protected if the US pulled out of the deal again, as it did under of Trump.
Iran also included mechanisms in the deal that would allow Tehran to rapidly increase its nuclear activities should Washington withdraw from the deal.
A European official rejected the idea of resuming talks between the two sides, noting that Tehran and Washington must agree on the draft text.
Two Western officials said they did not expect any announcement about an imminent deal, although an agreement was still possible in the coming days.
