Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said in a statement that his country had not received a positive response from Sweden and Finland to requests for the extradition of persons involved in terrorism, adding: “We sent a new appeal in which we mentioned our previous requests.”

A few days ago, Bozdag said the man extradited to Turkey from Scandinavia “has nothing to do with terrorist crimes,” adding that Sweden and Finland “did not agree to the extradition requests as Turkey expected.”

On May 18, against the backdrop of a Russian special operation in Ukraine, Finland and Sweden turned to the NATO Secretary General with requests to join the alliance. At first, Turkey prevented the process of considering these requests, but then Turkey, Sweden and Finland signed a security memorandum that took into account all the concerns of Ankara. After that, Turkey withdrew its objections to the entry of these two countries into the alliance after they pledged to hand over the wanted persons to Ankara.
