Thailand’s Constitutional Court has suspended Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha from his duties after deciding to go ahead with examining allegations that he exceeded his mandate.
There is a limit of eight years to be in office. Opposition parties argue that Prayut, who seized power in a military coup in 2014, has reached his term limit. The petition alleges that the time he spent as head of the military junta should count toward that term.
The Constitutional Court, according to Reuters, decided to examine the case, but did not indicate a date for its conclusion.
Vice President Prawit Wongsuwan is expected to take over as acting head of government.
