A South Sudanese diplomat in the United States of America managed to avoid a rape charge thanks to his diplomatic immunity. Charles Oliha, who worked diplomatically in Manhattan, was accused by a neighbor of, while he was intoxicated, having forced entry to his home and attempted rape more than once.
A complaint was filed with the New York Police Department, which eventually released the South Sudanese. The victim was taken to a medical center in the Washington Heights neighborhood for a medical evaluation.
“The investigation continues. This is a State Department matter,” New York Police Commissioner Julian Phillips said. The mayor of New York, Eric Adams, also confirmed the continuation of the investigation and repudiated the actions of which the diplomat is accused: “No sexual assault of any kind should be tolerated,” says the American channel WABC-TV.
