TAP was the target of a cyberattack. Company says operational integrity “is guaranteed”

TAP was the subject of a cyberattack on the night of this Thursday, August 25, according to the announcement made this Friday by the company. In a press release, the airline indicates that “TAP’s security mechanisms were activated in a timely manner and blocked unauthorized access.”

The company highlights that “throughout the night and early morning, the TAP teams have carried out an investigation into this event.”

In a statement, the company adds that “operational integrity is guaranteed”, so “there is no risk to flight safety”. So far, “no facts have been found that would allow us to conclude that there was improper access to customer data,” says TAP.

The airline’s contingency plan remains active and the company says that it is working in “articulation with the authorities with competence in the matter.”

This is not the first time that TAP has disclosed computer security incidents. Earlier this year, the company run by Christine Ourmières-Widener confirmed that its Twitter account had been hacked. “TAP confirms that its official Twitter account was the target of a cyberattack,” an official airline source said in January, adding that it “has already taken all necessary steps to protect its account.”
