Palestinian prisoner Khalil Awawda has suspended his open hunger strike after reaching a written agreement to set an upper limit on administrative detention and his release on 02/10/2022.
Notably, the Israeli Supreme Court refused to release Awawda, despite the severity of his health. Awawd’s lawyer, Ahlam Haddad, said in a press statement that “the court maintains that it is not the body to appeal the August 21 decision and that we have not come up with anything new until the decision is changed from a freeze to a release.”
Significantly, Awawda (40), from the city of Idna, west of Hebron, continued his hunger strike, refusing administrative detention, amid widespread calls for his release due to the seriousness of his health condition. Awawda resumed his strike on July 2, 2022 after suspending it earlier after 111 days of strike on the basis of promises of his release, but the Israeli authorities broke their promise and placed him in administrative detention for a period of four months; Knowing that he has been in custody since December 27, 2021.
