The air operation that connects Madeira with New York, which begins on November 3, will take place throughout the year, with a weekly flight, the regional government reported on Monday.
The Madeira Promotion Association and the SATA Group welcome the year-round launch of the Madeira – New York operation, starting on November 3, 2022″, reads the note released by the regional secretary of Tourism and Madeiran culture.
The document indicates that this the operation will be ensured by Azores Airlines and has the support of the Region, through the Madeira Promotion Association, and joint promotion actions are being prepared in the United States of America, with a view to strengthening the establishment of this destination in the North American market.
The Azorean airline will carry out a weekly connection in winter, leaving New York on Thursdays and returning from Madeira the next day.
As of the summer of 2023 (as of March 26), the departure from the New York airport will be on Monday, arriving in Madeira the next day at 9:00. The Madeira – New York connection will take place on Tuesdays.

Eduardo Jesus adds that “after the realization, for the first time, of direct flights between Madeira and JFK Airport, starting in November 2021, conditions have been created to continuously expand connections from one station to anotherwhich is important for those who want to travel and for the market, because of the confidence it conveys”.
For her part, the director of marketing for the SATA Group, Graça Silva, highlights “the possibility of continuing the work carried out in recent years with the Autonomous Region of Madeira, with the offer of air connections throughout the year”.

According to the same note, the first direct connection between Madeira and New York, last winter, began on November 29, 2021 and lasted until May 24, 2022, having been carried out 19 frequencies and transported 4,041 passengers total
