The Angolan opposition parties UNITA, CASA-CE, PRS, FNLA and Bloco Democrático published this Thursday a joint statement in which reiterate accusations against the Angolan judicial bodies of “subordination” to the “party [MPLA] / Condition” and announce the creation of a working group that study “the framework and conditions for the organization and convening of demonstrations”currently banned in the country.
The communiqué is published on the day that the decision of the Constitutional Court on the appeal filed by UNITA, which questions the official results decreed by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) of Angola – which gives victory to the MPLA, will be known.
Although the decision of the TC is not yet publicly known (at the time of the issuance of this pronouncement), the Angolan opposition parties refer to previous precautionary measures denied by the Angolan Justice, filed to preventively prevent the process of taking office of the President and Vice President of the Republic of Angola.
The Political Parties express their concern over the fact that an investiture program for the President and Vice President of the Republic is underway, with scheduled dates and publicly involved institutions, without definitive validation of the electoral results by the Constitutional Court.” , read the joint note.
Regarding the opposition demonstrations to the MPLA and the electoral process that the Angolan regime prohibited, for fear of disturbing public order, UNITA, CASA-CE, PRS, FNLA and the Democratic Bloc argue that it should be possible for it to happen, “with strictly peaceful and orderly character and in coordination with public order bodies“. For these five parties, the demonstrations fit “in the spirit of the constitutional order, the law and the public interest” of Angola.
In this new statement, the Angolan opposition forces denounce once again “irregularities” in the presidential elections that “contaminated the democratic framework of the electoral process”also alluding to “serious anomalies” in the “results announced by the CNE.”
