Britain’s King Charles III said on Saturday that he was well aware of the great legacy of the late Queen Elizabeth II, stressing that he would take on “grave responsibilities” with full respect for constitutional government.
“My mother was an example of long-lasting love and great sacrifice, and her legacy will live on,” Charles said at his inauguration.
Speaking to the most prominent political, social and religious figures of the country, he added: Queen Elizabeth set a unique example in governance and the whole world sympathized with the loss we all suffered.
He continued: I am well aware of the great legacy and the heavy duties and responsibilities that have fallen on my shoulders. Constitutional government and search for peace and harmony”.
After that, Charles III signed a proclamation making him king of the British throne.
Earlier on Saturday, a succession council made up of hundreds of politicians, bishops and senior government officials announced Charles as the country’s new king from St James’s Palace.
Queen Elizabeth, 96, died on Thursday after 70 years on the throne.
